16th Stage

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

16th Stage, at first sounds like something of an oddity. With the main synth line resembling an old polyphonic ringtone, the first minute and a half leaves you wondering where exactly the song is going. Is there some kind of lo-fi midi house scene that I’ve completely missed? Then, almost without realising, it’s warm sounds and gliding synths take over, leaving you feeling all nice and cozy on the inside.

The great thing about this opening track from U.S producer Todd Osborne’s first self-titled LP is that it never builds to anything resembling a climax. At just over 8 minutes in length Osborne is comfortable enough to take his time with this one. 16th Stage is the kind of mellow house track I’d imagine they would be chilling on the clouds to at a club in heaven.

Township Funk

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

Revered as one of this year’s best tunes, Township Funk was produced by Elvis Mujava of Pretoria, South Africa. Mujava dropped out of school at a young age and wanted to do nothing more then produce music. It soon hit the ears of Warp Records and was released globally. We have it plus a couple of mixes for you to taste.

Brodinski est en feu

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

I am a massive fan of DJ Mehdi. Everytime he is in Australia I make my way to wherever he is playing to hear some hot tunes. This is another which I am hanging out for. It is Brodinski‘s mix on Pocket Piano… Although the original has been out for a little while now, this remix is a lot different to it and Brodinski does a mint job in bringing back the original.
