Kanye Power!

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Say what you want of Kanye West, when this guy does good, he does real good.

I turned a blind eye when he released 808′s and heartbeats, and he fucked himself over at the grammys. But he has finally come back with something worth stopping to listen to, Power.

What I assume to be the first single of his upcoming record has been leaked, and thank god there is no auto-tune. Smart move Mr West.

Asian Man Dan has the song up for grabs so hit it up!

Review: Grum – Heartbeats LP

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Heartbeats‘ is Grums debut record, but that being said he has had much success in the past few years leading up to this release. Recently his remixes of Jump Jump Dance Dance and The Priors have stood out above the rest, and in my opinion he has really found his sound.

This record doesn’t have any weak spots, no one song sticks out as being rushed or unfinished and it sounds like Grum wrote the album he wanted. Due to his recent success, i was expecting this record to have been tailored more to fit a particular market. Instead it reminds me of soundtracks composed by Brad Fiedel or even John Carpenter.

Special mention for sampling Don Johnson‘s Heartbeat.

Overall this album is worth tracking down. I can’t wait to hear remixes/re-edits of some of the darker songs!

Klaxons finally return

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

A record that has taken much time and caused much controversy, The Klaxons have finally released their first track from the forthcoming album. Flashover is an over-produced guitar-heavy indie track with piano breaks (but what else would you expect from every major record labels favourite ‘Mr Fix-it’ Ross Robinson). Luckily the sound of the song itself has not come to far from the bands debut record, Myths Of The Near Future, although I’m interested to hear what happened with the album produced by Simian Mobile Disco‘s James Ford. (supposedly scraped when it was “too experimental” for release)

Underground Cinema

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

Recently a friend of mine became involved with a group called Underground Cinema. In a nutshell this group will put on a film roughly once a month, in a secret location with an atmosphere that compliments the film being screened. You won’t know what film that is, only the setting in which the film is taking place, and once you arrive you walk right into it. I am yet to experience an Underground Cinema event yet, but i promise you i will definately be writing a  follow up, and I am actually so excited. Visit their website to see video footage of the last event and buy tickets.

This event is only days away so don’t hesitate.

merci!

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

*Posting from a boring hotel room.

Received another tasty email from Eye Industries Records with the release of Cassette Club’s – 4 Me (Remixes)! All are available to buy from Beatport via link’s on their soundcloud. But as an extra something special I have included the Beaumont remix which is my favourite of the four. (sorry about the quality)

A little trip back

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

It’s Saturday morning here in “sunny” Melbourne and I’m just hanging out, everyone is either at work or recovering from friday night so theres not really much to do until later in the afternoon. Soooo all morning i thought I’d pull out my old iPod and see what’s on it. Such a wide variety of music, which has influenced me to where I am now. Here are a couple which really stood out for me… some are a couple of years old others only last year..

The original of this song was released in 2009 by Das Pop – which really wasn’t that long ago… but still last decade. I chose an Aeroplane remix of ‘Fool For Love’. This is unlike any other Aeroplane remix as they tend to go for that more kind of disco revival kind of minimal approach to their remixes.

Fool For Love – Das Pop (Aeroplane Remix) (192)

Miami Horror are having a massive year 2010. With the release of ‘Sometimes’ and now ‘Moon Theory’ I’m liking the way they are heading and can’t wait until the release of their record. This one dates back to 2007, between then has been remixed, torn apart and re worked. Here is Cyndi Seui‘s remix of ‘Don’t Be On With Her’.

Another Miami Horror remix while I’m at it… Can’t stop playing this tune

Road To Splendour: Gypsy and the Cat

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

The next Road To Splendour is Gypsy and the Cat. Hailing from Melbourne they were originally found on Triple J‘s Unearthed. Drawing influences from all sorts of artists from Daft Punk to Jeff Buckley they self proclaim their making of ‘perfect summer sunshine music’. Now living it up in London, the guys are currently working on their album with producers David Fridmann (MGMT) and Rich Costey (Muse). Here is Shazam‘s remix of the tune which bought them to where they are today “Jona Vark”.

Ooooh Barbs

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Lets see if this works. Just so you know, we have recently had to move from Blogger to WordPress. Loving every part of wordpress at the moment but its taking a little time to get everything set up and running again. I’m not exactly sure if this would make its way onto Hypem or not so lets see.. Here is a track I’ve been listening to ALOT recently. Its by Duck Sauce and is called ”Barbra Streisand”. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Road To Splendour: Violent Soho

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Road To Splendor is our chance to get everyone excited about the acts playing at this years Splendor In The Grass, but one thing that is consistent throughout all SITG Festivals is the lack of electronic music, which gives us a chance to showcase a lot of music we may tend to miss due to our heavy focus of dance. It’s with pleasure that our first Road To Splendor introduces Queensland’s own Violent Soho

Signed to Thurston Moore’s label Ecstatic Peace Records, Violent Soho have had a whirlwind 2 years. After releasing a self funded LP they were picked up and taken all over the world to showcase their sound, eventually being picked up by Thurston to release their Self Titled LP in March this year.

Although this record is going to make waves in the indie world, I’m not 100% sold on it. They have brought back grunge, but to be honest, I’m surprised it has taken this long. Great support for a festival headlined by 90′s grunge/punk legends The Pixies.
