So here it is finally. A preview of Kavinsky's Nightcall EP. Nightcall, the title track of the EP, is quite slow, synth heavy and very reminiscent of Dead Cruiser. But Pacific Coast Highway is in stark contrast to this. It has overall feeling very similar to Danger's newest EP 09/17/2007. Remixes included on the release will feature Breakbot (who can do no wrong right now) and others.
Available March 26th on Record Makers.

Every time I come across a song I like which has been sent, or I have found cruising around online which I want to share I add it to my 'To blog' playlist in iTunes. It's been around a week since I last had some music to share so this playlist is overflowing at the moment. Good news for you.. Some of this music you may have already got your hands onto and some you may not but it's good music anyway.

Grum has been tearing it up pumping out these little babies like the maternity ward in your local hospital. This one I have to share is a remix of Goldfrapp's Rocket. Strong steady synth lines running below right throughout the track really draw you in and leave you wanting more. I have to say, I'm looking forward to what other babies Grum has coming up in 2010.

I have to say if there was any other producer who is tearing up 2010 as well as Grum it would have to be Russ Chimes. This guy is a gun. It was only a couple of days ago where I was sent this hot little tune. This time Russ Chimes has remixed When The Sirens Sound by Heads We Dance. Check it out. Yet again, looking forward to what is to come later this year.!

I love what Redial has done with Barresto's track We Won't Stop. We saw this track begin to make it's way around the blog circuit a couple of weeks ago and since then I haven't been able to stop playing it. Mid Feb we posted the original.. now check out the remix. Well a remix.

It was actually the video clip which got me onto this track. The dark warehouse, the car spotlights, and of course pretty ladies. It is Night By Night by Chromeo... But the Midnight Conspiracy Remix. Original elements of the song are still strongly present but the guys have put their own little twist on it. Still a great tune.

The second instalment of a Swedish Mafia series is Erik Hassle's Hurtful. Swedish Mafia consists of Copycat, Divide & Kreate, and Nochman.

Erik Hassle came out of nowhere back in 2008, coming second in the Metro Music Challenge. It was this positioning which landed him a deal with Roxy Recordings which then lead to a deal with Island Records and Universal Republic. Hurtful has now been rereleased internationally slightly made over, but Swedish Mafia wanted to add their touch... Here it is.

Jamie Lidell as of late has been recording his upcoming album Compass, and has been touring in anticipation of its release. Last night, Valentines Day Eve, was his visit to Melbourne and the Corner Hotel.
I have seen Jamie Lidell once before bring in the New Year for 2009. Previously touring with a 5 piece band, he crooned his way through JIM and Multiply, with a short intermission of vocal-layering he is well known for. I was blown away by just how good this guys voice is, but the best was still to come.
Seeing him come out alone I wasn't sure what to expect, but he jumped straight into Little Bit Of Feel Good which then began to bleed into the the rest of the night. He dropped in his singles between improvised layers upon layers of vocals. I couldn't stop dancing, and I cannot wait for what is expected May 17.

On Monday night Melbourne fans had the chance to experience a smaller more interment session with Calvin Harris. Travelling around Australia and New Zealand with the Big Day Out Tour this was a welcome change to the otherwise mass crowds Harris has been playing for over the last couple of weeks.

The room was full of hot sweaty bodies rocking out to the sounds of Sydney's very own Cassette Kids. Taking to the stage nervously, they quickly wore off as the crowd reacted to the vocals of frontwoman Kat Noorbergen and their electro-pop.

Having just wrapped up recording of their debut album, Cassette Kids played many of the favourites from the We Are ep as well as some hidden gems from the soon to be album. It was tunes like Freaky Sweety, Laying Around and You Take It which really got the crowd warmed up for Harris.

OMFG. Having seen Calvin Harris at Sydney's Big Day Out in such a big venue, Harris really tore the roof of The Prince Of Wales Bandroom. It was two years since he had been back in Melbourne, so off course the crowd was ready to party.

The Band begins to play as Harris slowly works his way onto stage, building suspense. Playing at the Big Day Out, this show really gave the Melbourne audience an idea of what to expect the next day at the festival. And they soaked up every little second as if it was the last.

Working between his synth, guitar and mixing decks, Harris got the crowed bouncing to his hits You Used To Hold Me, Flashback, The Girls, I'm Not Alone. Wrapping up his 90 minute set the crowd was wanting more as he left the stage.

100 Big Days Out

Who would have really thought that 100 shows would come up soo quickly or even at all. I bet it was just a dream to even do more than one show of Ken West and Vivian Lees when they joined together eighteen years ago and did the first ever Big Day Out. But now 100, that is crazy, insane and exciting all at once. Together, with a dedicated group of crazy kids and long hours they have put together some of the biggest acts from all over the world on one piece of paper. There have been good times, and bad, but many many memories which will never be forgotten. And on the 100th show I just happened to be one of those.

The vibe for this show was unlike any other I have been to. It was just after 1 when I joined the sea of people which the venue consumed and everyone went their separate ways. The first act I really wanted to see for the day was Kasabian and they were amazing. I've got to admit, I hadn't really looked into their live performances before and didn't really know what to expect but I was pleased. It really was a good way to start the day, even if it was like 1000 degrees in the main arena.

Over at the Converse Essential stage was fucking amazing. That vibe I felt when walking into the venue was blown away by Passion Pit and their set. Out of every act which was on the lineup this was the one I anticipated the most. Who could have thought it was only two years where Michael Angelakos first dreamt up the band back in New York. Spreding their bigger songs throughout the set it got the crowd singing and dancing together. The Reeling first up, followed by Sleephead and then finishing the set with Little Secretes. It was amazing.

You would have had to be crazy if you missed Greg Gillis AKA Girl Talk. The energy admitted from one person is amazing. This guy puts on a party you can work out to. His live set is a fucking workout. You could picture a bunch of middle age ladies having his music play while they do their aerobics. The crowd was hot, sweaty and pumping and the Boiler Room was packed. Having this vibe in such a large arena you could only imagine the energy he would put out in a smaller venue, or even a house party. This guy doesn't stop. And having been surrounded by a bunch of guys and girls on stage only lifted the set more.

Calvin Harris, Simian Mobile Disco and Peaches were a great way to end the day. Calvin got everyone jumping and singing along to his hits I'm Not Alone, The Girls, Flashback and You Used to Hold Me. Fire Hoses were dragged into the middle of the crowd and swung above heads. Lights, music and water really got the crowd dancing. Simian put together a hour long set which was awesome. I would love to see these guys in a smaller venue, but this was still a hot set.

Peaches - Mommy Complex (Barletta & Ernold Sane Remix) (320)

Even though I spent the last parts of the day in the Boiler Room away from Muse it was on my way to Peaches where I decided to drop into their set. I have to say that I'm not a massive fan of the band but would have to say they put on an amazing live performance. Big screens both behind and beside the stage and lasers.

And of course what good is a birthday party without fireworks. The night went off with a bang. Nice job reaching the mighty 100 guys, and I will be seeing you again next year!

Welcome Big Day Out 2010 Tour and the endless supply of international bands of the summer months. Last night, I was lucky to have tickets to see Love of Diagrams and Passion Pit play to a sold out crowd at The Corner Hotel. Unfortunately for most who attended I feel that most of the performance of both bands went over the heads of those who attended. Love Of Diagrams' songwriting and song structure, which, to be honest I had never paid too much attention too, was extremely impressive.They left me wanting more which means i will endeavor to pay more attention to them in the future.

Waiting for Passion Pit to start wasn't my favorite part of the night, but thankfully when they did grace the stage they didn't disappoint. The set was well planned, and they were careful not to let all of their tricks out of the bag too quickly. For me though, I feel like the set wasn't necessarily good, nor was it bad, it was exactly what I expected.

It's been a few days between posts, and I apologise, but today i have a surprise.

Uffie (Ed Banger Records), needs no introduction. She has a new single due January 25, and i thought i should share it, including an amazing remix by Zombie Disco Squad.

The original mix is what you've come to expect from Uffie. Solid Rhymes about her g-g-g-generation with a dance beat and looped guitar, but the Zombie Disco Squad Dub Remix is my favourite of the sampler i was sent. It has this catchy horn loop sitting aloft a hip hop drum beat, and has already found it's way into my record bag. Please enjoy.

When looking for something to listen to, after a long Saturday night, it's great to find something so well adjusted to today's mood. The new remix of The Knife's Colouring Of Pigeons by DAI is, as corny as this sounds, a delight, and something i want to start using myself. Nothing, to intrusive, they have gotten the sound just right. Their is plenty of vocal overlays and a really beautiful bass-line that seems to combine everything together, and in what seems like the distance is a background of oriental percussion that isn't instantly recognizable.

Strange. Cool. Didn't even notice. Whenever I am writing up a post I listen to the tracks I'm writing about on repeat for the entire time it takes me to write up the post. You know, to share exactly how I feel about the particular song take note of the drops and builds etc etc. This is the first song where I didn't even notice that it had finished once and started again. It is a remix of Amanda Blank's track Shame On Me. This Viking remix has been floating around for a little while but it's just recently where I got into it. A strong steady beat running underneath throughout the track with funky synth lines over the top really allow the vocals of Amanda to stand out. The chorus, like any song is the most catchy and is what really draws you into this track.
